The government of The Republic of Serbia made a decision in 1998 to form The Gerontological Centre as an independent institution from the old people`s home, which existed from 1990.

The institution socially protects adults and old people who are mentally active - it is open and it offers:
- lodging, diet, care, medical protection, activities related to culture, amusement, occupation and other activities, services of social work and other services depending on needs, abilities and interests of our users;
- for work involvement, the Institution has its own economy for producing field crops;
- The Instituiton sells the handicraft made by the users of home in the framework of work activities;
- it offers help to old and infirm people who are not able to take care of themselves. It helps them in maintaining their home clean and in taking care of their personal hygiene. It helps them in buying food as well as in preparing food and in the distribution of food and in other activities, depending on the needs of the users. It also offers care for the old and ill people whose families are not able to serve them.

The instituiton has 110 rooms which are divided into two buildings.

The Building A is made for the accomodation of twenty people - the home community - and it is built in accordance with all normative standards for the accomodation of old people.

The Building B is made by UNHCR and The Red Cross of Serbia as the accomodation for refugees in 1993. In this building, there is the in-patient clinic on the ground floor.

On the storey of that building, there are the rooms with more than one bed and with two toilets. 43 users can be accomodated on this storey.

We have a kitchen which is made for preparing food for 200 users, we planned and began with preparing food and offering help to the old people who live in their own homes. We also have a wash-room for 200 users, a masut boiler-room and we are connected to town gas.

Our clinic is small (improvised) for this number of users.

We do not have the space for physical therapy, for clinic, for two offices and for some single rooms and for double-bedded rooms. Because of that, we made The Project of Building - we connected the Building A and B which would include the space we do not have. We got all permissions and we gave this project to the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Politics in order to get funds for that.

We also have a nice vegetable patch with five greenhouses in which the workers of the Institution, users with freedom of choice and soldiers who are in noncombatant military service work.

We made a summer house where, when it is very hot, our users spend their time having fun, associating with each other and working.

Our home is very beautiful, especially because it is a single-storey house, the site is very wide and there are many green shrubs and flowers near the home.

The institution is not isolated, it is located in the centre of the new town where there are many shops, and where the streets are wide, the school is very near and this year, only 100 meters from the institution the stone is laid for the building of the Orthodox Church.
