LOCATION

The present-day town Bačka Palanka is located on the former channel of the river Danube. The big river moved its stream towards the south, and then it rested against the Mountain Fruška Gora.

Bačka Palanka was mentioned as the urban settlement in the written documents at the end of the fifteenth century for the first time. Then, it was named Pešt, while, under the rule of Turks, it got its name Palanka.

The municipality of Bačka Palanka covers an area of 578 square kilometers. Twelve settlements of the municipality are located on the left shore of the Danube, while two are located on the right one, in the tame area of the Mountain Fruška Gora.

Over 60.000 of inhabitants live in the municipality, while in the town itself, there are 35.000 of inhabitants. However, it is estimated that approximately 15.000 of people who escaped from the areas of The Former Yugoslavia, from the areas which were in a state of war, found their permanent life shelter in this municipality.

The town itself offers all the contents of the modern town. It is an economic, administrative, educational and cultural centre of the municipality. Relatively small distance from the town Novi Sad enables the inhabitants of the municipality to please all their needs of high and even of the highest level of the life standard.
